Sworn in as Minister of State in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, serving with the Cabinet Minister, Smt. Annpurna Devi. The Ministry’s institutions list her in that office.
Reviewed the implementation and progress of Mission Saksham Anganwadi and POSHAN 2.0, Mission Vatsalya, the Sambal component of Mission Shakti and women- and child-centric legislation with the State department, covering all administrative divisions.
The release records that implementation challenges discussed included Anganwadi Centre infrastructure and vacancies in Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Boards. She also met the Governor, Shri K. T. Parnaik, and the Chief Minister, Shri Pema Khandu, on 18 January 2025.
India participated in the 63rd session of the Commission for Social Development under her leadership. She presented India’s statement at the Ministerial Forum on the priority theme “Strengthening Solidarity and Social Cohesion” on 11 February 2025.
The delegation also contributed to discussions on “Policies to Bolster Social Resilience in the Context of More Frequent and Complex Crises” and on universal rights-based social protection systems.
Visited the Anganwadi Centre at Sethi Nagar, Indore, as part of an outreach and field inspection programme, accompanied by senior officials of the Ministry, the local administration and ICDS stakeholders.
She reviewed services delivered at the centre and interacted with Anganwadi workers, beneficiaries and the community on the ground-level impact of nutrition, health and education interventions, and noted the role of digital tools including Poshan Tracker and the training of frontline workers.
A day-long inspection covering the One Stop Centre at Chingdong Leikai, the Lairembi Sanglen and Gulamchat Child Care Institutions, the Kadamtala Anganwadi Centre, the District Hospital at Ningsingkhul, Lalpani Primary School, the Sonapur Amrit Sarovar site, plantation sites, the Kalinagar Water Treatment Plant and PMAY (Urban) houses.
At the Child Care Institutions she directed the District Child Protection Officer to ensure regular health check-ups, nutritious meals and yoga sessions. At the District Hospital she administered Oral Polio Vaccine to infants and enquired about Sickle Cell Anaemia prevalence and Ayushman Bharat benefits. At Lalpani Primary School she participated in the nationwide commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram.
On the margins of the Commission for Social Development, met H.E. Claudia Teresa Valenzuela Lopez and reaffirmed India’s commitment to the partnership with Guatemala. She outlined India’s approach to women-led and inclusive development across social protection, education, health, nutrition, skill development, digital empowerment and women’s economic participation.
She shared India’s experience with Self-Help Groups, Direct Benefit Transfer, PM POSHAN school meals and digital public infrastructure. She also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, sharing details of the Pankhudi Portal and encouraging voluntary support for Anganwadi centres and childcare homes.
Met Shri Parvathaneni Harish, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, during the New York engagements around the Commission for Social Development.
The Ministry announced that she would visit New York from 9 to 12 March 2026 to participate in CSW-70 at United Nations Headquarters, delivering India’s national intervention during the General Discussion and addressing the High-Level Meeting on “Violence against Women and Girls”.
The priority theme of CSW-70 was ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices, and addressing structural barriers.
Addressed the side event “Women-Led Development and South-South Cooperation – Success Stories from the IBSA Fund” on 12 March 2026, alongside ministers and representatives from Brazil, South Africa, Gambia, Fiji and Liberia, the UNDP Administrator and the Permanent Representative of India.
She referred to the IBSA Fund’s support for development assistance projects, to a project strengthening the Women Legislative Caucus in Liberia, and to a proposed floriculture project in Jordan supporting women-led micro-enterprises. On the sidelines she held a bilateral meeting with the Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities of South Africa.
On the second day of a three-day official tour of Sikkim, visited Buddha Park at Ravangla, the Temi Tea Garden and Factory, and the National Institute of Technology, Sikkim, where discussions covered education, skill development and youth empowerment.
She inspected the Food Godown at Namthang to review food grain storage and distribution, and planted a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.
Present at a review meeting on the activities and training programmes of the Institute’s Western Regional Centre at Indore, chaired by the Union Minister, Smt. Annpurna Devi, and attended by the Member of Parliament for Indore and senior Ministry officials.
The review covered regular training programmes, research studies and the Child Guidance Centre. The Institute recorded that its Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Counselling, recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, would commence from July 2026.
